If big Uluwatu is Bali's surfing version of the Colosseum, then Padang Padang is more like the Octagon - played out in limited space with short burst of extreme intensity. Clean-up sets are are constant threat at Ulu's, less so at Bali's 'Crown Jewel'. So when a rogue wave rolls in (opening scene), it will often take out a large chunk of the lineup - which is compact by design.
